Why cry?

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

Why do humans cry? The first ever thing a human does on birth is cry. If not something is wrong. That changes as the baby grows into toddler, then into a school going child, then into a man or woman with his or her own independent opinions. It changes at first to annoyance, then to the classic "Oh for gods sake grow up!", to finally a sign of weakness. Crying is frowned upon by many for being a sign of weakness. Do I disagree to it? Not completely. It depends on the situation. Now of course there is the science behind it all. But the fact is that there are times when people cry because of them feeling weak or insecure. They cry to get the attention of those around them for some support. That isn't necessarily a bad thing. Humans cannot take everything. They aren't emotionless. We are social animals. We are mean't to support each other in times of need. Crying could be a form of call for help.

There is an age old statement that men don't cry. Real men do cry. Crying shows how sensitive they are to their surroundings and people. A few tears are necessary to make yourself a happier and satisfied person. Life is not a perfectly smooth ride. A few showers will be expected. But then, if we didn't cry then we are in the grand scheme of things just pieces of rock with higher IQ's. Of course there will be moments where there is no time to cry, where they need another more precise and adequate reaction. But that sadness never goes away. We can just hold it back until later. There is another form of crying. A forced and unnatural one. Does this imply that the person is trying to put dust in your eyes? Maybe, but then maybe not. Sometimes people who are faking it are doing it for reasons. Reasons maybe loneliness, need of support, need of understanding, desperation.

Whatever it maybe, human beings need to cry. They have feelings, desires and dreams, all of whom which can lead to a few tears. But in the end, it helps the person stay sane and happy. Maybe happier than before.
