Technophobia

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

Yes its a real thing. Fear of anything that seems like advanced technology. But this isn't some kind of scientific or medical article. This is more about the information about the ill effects of technology being spread by people on social media platforms using... wait for it... technology. Yes, social media is the current version of the guillotine. Technology is our Maximillian Robospierre. Well almost. Technology is too big to stop or control. People will continue to use technology relentlessly. To be honest, when has humanity ever discovered anything and used it judiciously? Oil? Almost exhausted. Light bulb? Pure dark night sky is now a thing of fantasy and horror movies. Body spray? Everyone of us have at least once in our life forgot to shower and bathed in body spray instead.

The point being, that human beings aren't great at limiting the usage of technology. We use it till it is unusable either because it doesn't work anymore or it doesn't exist anymore. That isn't always a bad thing. It is a reason for our constant progress and breakthroughs. We overuse everything so we notice how to utilize the commodity by easier means. And because "easy" is always in high demand, humans will persevere and achieve those breakthroughs. Remember that game blue whale? The one that led teenagers to kill themselves eventually? There were so many posts about it. So many people begging the world to be careful and not to play it. What good did it do? Invited a few senile daredevils to try it out.

In my view, technology resembles drugs. There is the good like penicillin and the bad like cocaine. There is the good use like prescribed medication and the overuse like drug overdose. I think most of the apprehension towards technology lies with the older generation. Maybe this is due to the them not growing in such an environment. Nowadays children grow up in a technology crazy world. It is normal to them. What the older generation don't understand, they fear. This doesn't mean that there is nothing to fear. It just means that they may overlook the positives. Today we live longer, easier, and are more connected than ever before thanks to technology.

To conclude, I would like to bring up my earlier drug reference. Just because of all the anti-drug campaigns and awareness being created, people aren't necessarily gonna stop using it. There will always be self proclaimed stupid rebels(mostly teenagers trying to look cool) who will use them and get addicted. Similarly everyone knows what is wrong with technology. Yet people use it daily because used the right way, it can help us achieve wonderful things faster and easier(And no, I'm not talking about ordering Paprika Lays on amazon prime).
